If it's good enough for choosing the people who run the country and influence our jobs, education, health care, mortgages and retirement income, it ought to be good enough for choosing a home appliance.

If refrigerator ads were like political ads, they would be filled with exaggerated claims and mudslinging against competitors. "Tired of your old fridge's broken promises? Vote for the Coolidge 5000 - the hardest working, most reliable fridge on the market. Our rival's models? Just a bunch of energy-guzzling failures. For quality and affordability, there's only one choice: Coolidge 5000. Negativity and half-truths would dominate, leaving consumers confused and distrustful.
